Wireless Hvac Thermostat
|
The world is going wireless. More and more, our society is not encumbered by the hassle of cords and wires. You can even get a wireless HVAC thermostat to control the temperature in your home. These thermostats are available from most any HVAC company that handles domestic heating, ventilation and air conditioning. More than the latest novelty, a wireless thermostat has some clear advantages over the traditional wired variety. Because of this they are being installed in many new homes as a standard feature and even being installed in older homes as an upgrade.
You can place a wireless thermostat in one or more areas of your home to provide ultimate temperature control in many different areas. Because of the efficiency offered by this type of thermostat some experts have estimated your energy cost savings to be as high as 20 percent. Of course your actual savings will vary depending on a vast number of other specifications and criteria. There are some easy ways you can prepare your home for the cold and reduce the amount of heat you're using. This can work in conjunction with your wireless thermostat to offer the highest level of efficiency.
If your home has an attic, install extra insulation to keep cold air from reaching your living space. Extra insulation should also be installed under the floors above your basement as well. Check under kitchen and bathroom cabinets for cracks, leaks and holes. Expansion foam can be used to fill in those areas. Expansion foam is a very handy product and can be purchased most anywhere. It comes in a spray can and after it is sprayed it immediately expands to fill cracks and holes. Another area cold air may be seeping in is around your windows and doors. Use weatherstripping around these areas and get a draft stop for your door. Even rolled towels can be stuffed against the crack to prevent the entry of cold air.
When you use methods like these along with your wireless HVAC thermostat, you give yourself a better shot at saving money. If you don't yet have a wireless thermostat, there are many contractors who can install one for you. Do some comparison shopping and get estimates from at least three contractors before you make a final decision. Always make sure the company you choose is properly licensed and bonded to do contracting work in your area. You might even want to ask for references as well.
